Im 100% new to this costuming, but been a fan of Star Wars since childhood. Grew up in and around Wheeling. I love painting and art so I thought I would give this a try. Im scared though of cost as I do not have much money.

Hi Justin! Welcome! I was born and grew up in Wheeling as well. :)

What costume are you interested in building? Be sure to check out the 501st Costume Reference Library to see what strikes your interest:

https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRLbyname

Price ranges for costumes really depend on what you want to build. For example, a lower priced costume such as an Imperial Bridge Crew (https://databank.501st.com/databank/Cos ... ridge_crew) can later be updated to become a TIE Pilot, Imperial Gunner, etc.

Depending on if you sew the flight suit and hat yourself or purchase the items it can range around $250-$400. But once you have that base it can built upon for other costumes.

For something like a scout trooper, the hard armor pieces and helmet will likely run around $700, depending on the vendors. Again, the soft parts can either be sewn or purchased. I only made the boots with my scout and purchased the rest from various approved vendors and spent around $1000ish.

In the near future a costume adviser will be assigned to you to aid in the costume construction adventure. Since it's around the holidays, people may likely be away until after the new year.

If you have any questions in the meantime feel free to post them here.

I hope you find a build you will enjoy! There is a ton of stuff to choose from and plenty of simple things to get started.
I would buy parts of costumes to spread out the cost. There are a few costumes that you can 3D print lots of pieces of you have that as an option.
Good luck!
