Hello from South East Michigan

Post by Zarlon »

Hello all and thank for allowing me to join your forums. My name is Kyle and I am a member of the Great Lakes Garrison up in Michigan. The reason I requested access is that my wife and I hope to get a troop in with some of you next year. My dad's side of the family is all from Grafton so as a kid we used to visit once or twice every year. I spent many hours of my youth playing on the playground on Maple avenue and visiting my grandfather's drug store down on Mainstreet. My grandmother was even the first female Mayor of Grafton back in 1967. I would really like to head back there sometime next year to pay my respects to family members and I thought it would be nice to try and coordinate the trip with a local troop if there is one. I'll keep an eye on your upcoming events section and hopefully will get to troop with some of you soon.

Hello Kyle! Good to hear from you and thanks for reaching out. Others may chime in but I would say the best event to participate with in that area will be the Grafton Memorial Day Parade. It is always a huge event for us and tons of fun. Albeit a tad warm the last couple of years. Keep an eye out though for anything that pops up for when you maybe in town though.

Take care,
A

Welcome to the forums Kyle!

I second what Anthony said about the Memorial Day Parade. I believe next year will be the 153rd annual parade (the longest running Memorial Day parade in the country!) Morgantown isn't far from Grafton, so depending on when you are around we might have a cook out or troop happening in this area as well that you can participate in. Looking forward to meeting you!

Best,
Lisa Jones

I have lived in the Grafton are for about 1.5 years and served as a pastor here for almost 6 years. I would echo the above in that the Memorial Day Parade would be a great event to attend. In addition to the parade, we try to have a get together on the Sunday night before the parade for any folks who are already in the area.

Still to complete:
TD (Sandtrooper); 50%
TB (ROTJ Biker Scout); 60%
TA (AT-AT driver) 25%
SL (Darth Tyranus AOTC) 60%

That would be nice. I'll need to look up hotels in the area as it has been a while. The only two I know of are the lodge up at the lake and Crislip if it's still there.

The lodge is still a nice place to stay. When we get a hotel for the Memorial Day parade, it’s typically one in the Bridgeport area which is about 20 minutes away.
